Medication Safety

Consistency is key. Take all your medications daily as directed. Ask your provider if you have any questions.

Medication Goals

Our primary goal is to help you feel better. Understanding that there are risks and benefits to every medication will help you keep realistic expectations about results and be more open to changes and adjustments when needed.

Medication Side Effects

Side effects are often the rule and not the exception; every medication has adverse effects that may be severe for some patients and unnoticeable for others. If you have any signs of an allergic reaction, such as hives, itching, rash, or difficulty breathing, seek medical attention as soon as possible.

Generic Medications

Most medications dispensed to patients are made by a generic manufacturer who uses the same active ingredient in the brand formulation to create a more affordable version. Generic medications are believed to be therapeutically equivalent to brand medications, however, sometimes they may contain lower quality filler ingredients that can cause adverse reactions or side effects.

Brand Medications

Brand medications are original formulations created by one manufacturer. When a new drug is first created, the manufacturer receives an exclusive market period (e.g. ten years, etc) during which no other manufacturer is allowed to copy and sell the medication. The cost can be hundreds of dollars. Once the period of exclusivity is over, generic formulations are allowed and the drug become available to more patients.

Prior Authorizations

If you are prescribed a brand medication, you will need to obtain a prior authorization from your insurance company before they will cover the medication. DreamCloud’s team will work swiftly with your insurance to make sure you receive your prior authorization as quickly as possible. Prior authorizations can be instantly approved, or they can take 1-5 business days, depending on the plan. If you need a prior authorization, please contact us.

Controlled Medications

Certain drugs are regulated by the Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) due to their risk for dependency and other adverse effects. These narcotic medications are called “controlled medications.” Many common medications for conditions such as anxiety, ADHD, insomnia, and pain are controlled medications. If you are prescribed controlled medications, your provider will discuss additional risks and safety measures to follow. Federal law prohibits use or misuse of controlled medications without a valid prescription. Do not share with or give your medication to anybody else. Patients who are non-compliant or demonstrate drug-seeking behavior may be discharged and terminated at any time.
